Battery or USB power

Connect the supplied USB-C cable to a suitable USB power supply to charge your Lineside. You can also leave it connected during normal use. A mains adapter is not included.

Battery runtime depends on the refresh interval, Wi-Fi signal, image detail and battery condition. A shorter interval means more downloads and screen redraws, so more power is used. The device does not provide a measured remaining runtime or charging percentage.

Choose a power mode

Open Settings with KEY2, unlock the browser controls and choose a mode on Device. Select Save device settings afterwards.

  • Battery saving: deep sleep between updates, with device intervals of 1, 5 or 10 minutes. Open Settings to reach phone controls.
  • Fast updates: intervals of 10 or 30 seconds, or 1 or 2 minutes. Wi-Fi still turns off between updates; power use is higher.
  • Continuously connected: keeps Wi-Fi and phone controls available between updates. It shares the Fast updates interval; use USB power for this mode.

Profiles and schedules can override refresh timings. Deep sleep during inactive periods also disconnects Continuously connected devices until the next active period.

Understand the battery indicator

The battery icon is a rough voltage-based estimate. It cannot reliably show whether a battery is charging, its exact percentage, or how many hours are left. The header’s reading belongs to the last displayed refresh.

The Battery page offers optional low-battery protection. When the reading is low, it sets a minimum 15-minute refresh interval in the two battery modes. You can still refresh manually.

Why the screen flashes or keeps its image

E-paper redraws differently from a phone screen. Brief flashing during a refresh is normal. Black & white refreshes faster and uses a little less power per redraw than 4 greys.

The screen retains its image without power. An image remaining when the device sleeps, switches off or runs out of charge doesn’t mean it is still updating. Look at the header timestamp and reopen Settings to check its state.

If the device or battery is damaged

If the display or battery becomes damaged, swollen or unusually hot, switch it off, unplug it and stop using it. Contact Lineside Ink before attempting to return it. Do not post a damaged battery unless we provide appropriate return instructions. Contact support.
